Fanes alp: a legendary place

Probably one of the most beautiful places in the Dolomites located behind the Sas dla Crusc range, in the heart of the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park. Rivers and ponds, fantastic rock formations, marmots, ibexes and cosy alpine huts. Our cows graze here during the summer months and, as a famous Ladin legend tells, the ancient kingdom of the Fanes reigned here.

The cavern of the Cave Bear on Conturines

A challenging hike that takes you back in 60.000 years, visiting one of the best places in Alta Badia. Towards the end of the 1980s, fossil remains of an impressive and never before discovered species of bear were discovered in the Conturines cave: the Ursus Ladinicus. The cave can only be visited by taking part in a guided excursion. For those who don't feel like taking part in the excursion there is the possibility to visit the Ursus Ladinicus museum in San Cassiano.

Journey among the ancient Ladin flavours

When I speak about Ladin kitchen I immediately think of tutres, crescents with ricotta and spinach but also my grandmother's stube, of family and simplicity. Several farms in Val Badia offer all this and they do it with warmth, dedication and authenticity. You can't visit Alta Badia without tasting a real typical Ladin dinner.

Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor

An exhibition in a medieval castle that aims to highlight the history and life of the Ladins in the Dolomites. So language, culture, legends, but also tourism, crafts and geology of the Dolomites. I highly recommend a visit to all those who want to discover some more curiosities about our people, from prehistory to modern times.

Among farms and churches in the village of Badia

The rococo style parish church of San Giacomo and San Leonardo is definitely a visit worthwhile, although the most important place of worship in Badia is certainly represented by the birth house with chapel and church of St. Ujöp Freinademetz from Oies. A walk on the "Tru dles Viles" is the right combination for a visit to both places and the farms in the surroundings of Badia.
